Allergy

Allergy

Allergy consultations are for sneezing, itch, and a watery nose that behaves like the lining is reacting. A blocked nose without itch may be the septum, the sinuses, or something else. The visit tells those apart. It does not start with surgery.

What this visit covers

Seasonal sneezing, dust, an itchy nose and eyes, and a clear discharge. Asthma and eczema are asked about because they travel with nasal allergy. One-sided blockage, bleeding, or lost smell without itch belongs with the nose and sinus consultation as well, because those are not typical of simple allergy.

What may happen

The nose is examined. You should be shown how a steroid spray is aimed, because most failed sprays were never aimed. Allergy testing has appeared in public descriptions of the practice. Confirm it is offered on the day you book if that is the reason you are coming. Immunotherapy is a longer treatment for selected people. It is not assumed to be available. Ask.

Where surgery fits

It does not treat the allergy. If the turbinates or the septum still block the nose after the lining has been treated, that is a separate discussion on the nose and sinus pages.

Practical questions

Can an operation cure allergic rhinitis?

No. It can change a structural block. The lining can still react, and medical treatment continues.

What if this feels urgent?

Difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding, or a throat that is swelling quickly needs emergency care. Do not wait for a reply to the website form. A hearing loss that arrives suddenly should be assessed the same day: call the clinic, or go to an emergency department if the clinic is closed.
